Version 2026-07-26 · Effective upon your acceptance at signup · Provider: SHOTLEFTCAB (PTY) LTD (trading as “ShotLeft”)
These are the terms you accept in the app before your first ride. Passengers are consumers under the Consumer Protection Act, so the liability limits below go as far as the law allows and no further. Clauses that limit our responsibility or place risk on you are in bold so you notice them.
1.1 ShotLeft is a technology platform. We are not a taxi service, transport operator, carrier or employer of Drivers. Drivers are independent operators who provide the transport in their own vehicles.
1.2 When you book a trip, the contract for the ride is between you and the Driver. ShotLeft's job is to connect you, show the price, process payment and provide the safety and trip features required by the e-hailing regulations.
2.1 You must give accurate information, be old enough to contract, and complete any verification we ask for (e.g. a selfie). Keep your login secure; you are responsible for activity on your account.
3.1 The full price or a fair estimate is shown before you confirm, including every charge in this clause — we don't add fees you weren't shown (CPA s23–26). If the final fare differs materially (e.g. a route change you requested), we tell you before charging.
3.2 How your fare is worked out. The fare is based on the distance, the time taken and the vehicle class you chose. A minimum fare applies to short trips, and that minimum is higher between 22:00 and 04:00 so late-night trips still pay a driver properly.
3.3 Surge — capped at 1.5×, for everyone. When lots of people are booking at once, a surge multiplier may be added to the fare. Surge never goes above 1.5× the normal fare, for every passenger, with no exceptions — ShotLeftCab Plus members pay the same live surge as everyone else (see 3.10). The multiplier is shown to you before you confirm.
3.4 Service fee (2%). A service fee of 2% of the fare is added to what you pay, and is shown as its own line on your receipt. ShotLeftCab Plus members pay no service fee while their membership is active (see 3.8).
3.5 Payment. Payment is taken via your chosen method after the trip. Cash is available only where you are eligible, and cash fares are rounded up to the nearest R5 so a driver isn't carrying change. Refunds and fare disputes are handled under clause 7.
3.6 Cancelling. You can cancel at any time. If you cancel shortly after a Driver has already accepted and started coming to you, a small cancellation fee may apply — it is shown to you in the app before you confirm the cancellation. There is no fee if the Driver cancels, if no Driver is found, or if you cancel within the first couple of minutes.
3.7 What it costs. ShotLeftCab Plus is an optional paid membership. Current prices are R9 per week, R29 per month or R290 per year, charged in advance to your chosen payment method and renewing automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. The price is shown before you buy and we tell you before any price change takes effect.
3.8 What you get. While your membership is active:
3.9 Ride credit — the important details.
3.10 Plus does not change the price of a ride. Members pay the same fare and the same live surge as everyone else, capped at 1.5× (3.3). Plus does not cap, shield or discount surge. Its money value is the waived service fee and the ride credit above, which the app's savings meter totals for you.
3.11 Cancelling your membership; your statutory rights. You can cancel in the app at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep the benefits until then.
3.12 Plus is a savings and convenience membership only. It gives you no priority in anything to do with safety, and it does not change any safety, insurance or regulatory term in these terms.
4.1 We verify Drivers' documents before they can drive, provide live trip tracking, trip-sharing and an in-app panic/SOS button connected to a response channel.
4.2 You also play a part: check the driver, vehicle and plate match the app before getting in, wear a seatbelt, and behave lawfully and respectfully. Do not ask a Driver to break the law (e.g. speed or overload).
5.1 Every Driver is required to carry their own motor insurance valid for paid passenger transport, and that insurance — together with the Road Accident Fund (RAF) — is the cover for an accident on your trip. It is the primary and first cover for a collision, for injury to you or a third party, and for damage to property. We require proof of it before a Driver can drive.
5.2 ShotLeft is not your insurer. ShotLeft does not provide vehicle, accident or personal-accident cover for your trip and does not insure the Driver's vehicle. ShotLeft's own insurance (business and data-protection / POPIA cover only) is for ShotLeft's own account and does not cover accident damage or injury to passengers or drivers.
5.3 If you are injured in a road accident you may claim from the RAF (as any road user may) and/or against the Driver and the Driver's insurer. These are separate from ShotLeft. Because the Driver is an independent operator who provides the ride in their own vehicle, ShotLeft is not liable for injury, death or damage caused by an accident or by the Driver's driving — see clauses 6.2 and 6.4 for exactly how this works and for the rights the law does not allow us to take away.
5.4 Reporting an accident and making a claim. If you are in an accident or incident on a trip, report it to us in the app (Support → “Report an accident/incident”); in an emergency, use the in-app panic/SOS or call 112 / 10111 first. When you report it we will (a) log the incident and preserve the trip record; (b) give you your trip details — date, route, fare receipt, the Driver's name and the vehicle registration; and (c) on a genuine insurance or RAF claim, provide, or help you obtain, the Driver's insurance details (insurer and policy reference) and put you in contact for the claim, and notify the Driver. We may share this information because you need it to exercise a legal claim — a lawful basis under POPIA. ShotLeft facilitates the exchange; it is not a party to your claim and does not decide, adjudicate, pay or underwrite it. The claim is between you, the Driver, the Driver's insurer and/or the RAF.
6.1 We will provide the Platform with reasonable skill and care, and Drivers must meet our onboarding and safety requirements.
6.2 Because the ride itself is provided by an independent Driver in their own vehicle, ShotLeft is not responsible or liable for the Driver's driving, for any accident or collision, for injury to or the death of any person, for damage to any vehicle or property, for the condition of the vehicle, or for anything else that happens during the trip — that risk sits with the Driver and their insurer, and with the RAF (clause 5). This is subject only to clause 6.4 and to the extent any loss is caused by ShotLeft's own failure to take reasonable care.
6.3 To the maximum extent allowed by law, ShotLeft is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss/damage to property left in a vehicle, and our total liability for any claim we are responsible for is limited to a reasonable amount.
6.4 What we do NOT and cannot exclude. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that the law does not allow us to limit or exclude — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for gross negligence, for fraud, or your rights under the Consumer Protection Act (including the right to fair value, good quality and safe services under s54–56). Those rights remain fully yours.
7.1 If a trip is not as it should be, contact support in the app. Where the CPA gives you a right to a refund, re-performance or a remedy, you have it. We aim to resolve complaints quickly and fairly and will not apply an unfair no-refund rule.
8.1 Don't misuse the Platform (fraud, abuse of Drivers, illegal acts, damaging a vehicle). You are responsible for loss or damage you cause, and you indemnify ShotLeft against claims arising from your breach of these terms or unlawful conduct — this does not affect your consumer rights above.
9.1 We process your personal information under our Privacy Notice and POPIA, to provide and secure the service, meet safety and legal duties, and keep trip records as the law requires. Our Information Officer is Nika van den Berg (info-officer@shotleftcab.co.za); you may contact them about your personal information, or lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
10.1 Governing law: South Africa. 10.2 We may update these terms on reasonable notice; where a change is material you are asked to accept the new version in the app before your next ride. 10.3 If any term is found invalid, the rest stands (severability). 10.4 These terms are written in plain language (CPA s22); ask us if anything is unclear.
